PARAPARA PARADISE Difficulty guide

Even though ironically there is a Para Para video series literally called "Para Para Holy Scripts (Para Para Kyouten)" that were released years before this series, PARAPARA PARADISE is considered, at least by every non-Japanese Paralist, the holy bible of Para Para and is still used by beginners.

It have well-known songs, is still one of if not the best produced Para Para video series, had charismatic dancers and great routines, but this doesn't mean that all of the routines are easy though at least half of them are. So, just because, I decided to rank the level of difficulty of the routines in every official PARAPARA PARADISE video and every video featuring the ParaPara AllStars. I don't know if this will be of any use but I hope so.

I'm one of the people who started with their videos decades ago, and I watched most of these videos an awful lot, the ones I watched the least I might have watched like 7 times. So, I decided to rank it on what I think watching these routines and dancing them myself. But I also have natural ability to dance so I tried to rank everything thinking about how each routine would be to a complete beginner that probably have no previous experience with dance at all, so maybe some routines will have its ranking changed with the time. It's not likely but also not impossible.

Why the uppercase titles and the "song name / artist" thing? Just to keep the 1990s/2000s vibes.

If you have issues with flashing lights, motion sickness or things of the like, it's better for you to search for other videos of people dancing to every routine of this volume because it was entirely filmed on a big Para Para club, which means flashing lights and a big screen with images that flashes and/or changes literally every few seconds. This happens only in this volume though.

The last four routines are solo numbers that are virtually always ommited from the video because in the original release they're a post-credits bonus. I'll share the links since they're available on YouTube, but one of them is of a Paralist YouTuber because I couldn't find the original video.

I love how while the theme of this video is "goldies oldies" and while half of the songs are indeed old, the other half was released just 6~7 years before.

"Megaton Man" and "Dance in the Fire" I don't know if I really recommend if you get dizzy easily. I don't count "Everybody Dance" because the head tilt is slight compared to the other two.

The only reason why "Burning Love" is ★★☆ is because you need to get on your knees a lot in this one, but if you can do it then it's a ★☆☆ one.

From this video onwards there's no flashing lights and images that changes every second 100% of the time, but there's a flash at the beginning of every routine. The special performance have a friggin lot of flashing lights and a big screen with changing images though, but neither are as extreme as like in the first video. Also the end of the intro can give motion sickness but it's only a few seconds and only in this video.

I almost counted "Sexy Sexy Sexy" because it is danced in its entirety, but it's hard to see the steps. If you're curious, I would give it the ★☆☆ ranking. Also you can see the PPA dancing to it if you search for the game videos.

Review: Falco - Einzelhaft

Nos meus estudos sobre o século 20, eu costumo me referir ao período de 1979-1983 como uma época bem depressiva, onde a parte mais sombria é mais ou menos 1979-1981, e 1982-1983 são os anos onde a coisa tenta começar a dar a volta por cima.

"Einzelhaft" é um álbum que foi totalmente produzido nesse período, e que sinceramente parece e não parece, porque é animado demais pra uma época que eu amo mas me dá arrepios só de pensar, mas ao mesmo tempo tem um som que define bem essa fase.

Sabe aqueles álbuns onde todas as músicas parecem ter o mesmo estilo, mas nenhuma é idêntica a outra e o álbum continua incrível mesmo assim? Esse é um perfeito exemplo desse conceito.

Eu ouvi esse álbum tantas vezes e tantas vezes seguidas que fiquei com receio de enjoar dele. Por causa disso, mesmo sem saber como ou o que falar, decidi fazer uma resenha mesmo assim pra tentar entender o que me faz gostar tanto dele. Estranhamente, um álbum que por anos me fez adiar uma resenha por me fazer pensar "o que posso dizer sobre ele?" é justamente um dos raros casos que me fez comentar cada faixa.

"Zuviel Hitze" é uma música que apesar de incrível, eu não sei se enxergaria como uma abertura, mas mesmo assim acabou sendo uma excelente escolha porque já começa o clima que vai durar até a última faixa.

O álbum é definitivamente mais conhecido pela segunda faixa, "Rap do Trag-" digo, pela música "Der Kommissar". Não vou negar, essa música é um clássico dos anos 1980 com muita razão, mas apesar de ser uma das melhores do álbum, é bem fácil de se perceber porque justo essa é a mais famosa... Não é algo ruim, de certa forma, apenas óbvio, ainda mais com parte da música tendo sido inspirada por "Super Freak" de Rick James.

"Siebzehn Jahr" é de certa forma uma balada relaxante, uma das melhores faixas. A parte instrumental é simplesmente maravilhosa.

Mas o que era uma música acalmante é seguida por uma alucinante já na introdução, "Auf der Flucht". Acho ela meio refinada pra ser um single, mesmo tendo um som bem clássico da época. Eu adoro a bridge que tem no meio.

"Ganz Wien" volta ao estilo mais lento, ficando agitada só no final. Gosto de músicas assim, uma faixa boa e sombria.

"Maschine Brennt" é a faixa mais animada e uma das melhores do álbum e da época, na minha opinião. Ela não é sofisticada como outras do álbum, mas nesse caso isso é a sua qualidade.

"Hinter uns die Sintflut" apesar de não ser frenética também é mais no estilo animado. Tem um estilo tropical que gruda fácil na cabeça.

"Nie mehr Schule" é outra animada mas que ainda assim mostra bem o estilo geral do álbum e da época, também fazendo um bom uso da música "Speed of Life" de David Bowie.

Falando em Bowie, "Helden von Heute" é outra música inspirada pela "Trilogia de Berlim", sendo facilmente outra que eu considero não só entre as melhores do álbum, mas da década. É fácil entender porque o próprio Falco preferia ela como A-side. Uma música animada mas épica que vai contra a tradição de encerrar álbuns com baladas...

... Mas nós temos mais uma faixa, a faixa-título, que além de ir contra a tradição de ter a faixa-título no final, "Einzelhaft" é subversiva e também é o último tipo de música que você imaginaria como uma faixa de encerramento. O que temos é uma mistura de "Der Kommissar" com "Auf der Flucht", resultando em um número caótico que encerra um álbum tão caótico quanto.

Review: Falco - Falco 3

Tirem os menores da sala e vamos começar não apenas uma viagem pelo mundo mas por um dos melhores álbuns da década de 1980.

Sabe, a minha vida inteira eu fui conhecida por ser ridiculamente fresca tanto com comida quanto com música, então, eu sei que soa prepotente, mas podem confiar quando eu digo que esse álbum é um dos melhores não só da sua década mas como de todos os tempos. É sério, não existe nenhuma faixa mais ou menos aqui. É um dos poucos álbuns que me faz sentir muito forte que até a pessoa responsável pela faxina do estúdio acreditava que aquele seria um trabalho incrível. "Einzelhaft" me faz sentir o mesmo, mas são dois álbuns completamente diferentes.

O álbum é mais conhecido pela primeira faixa, "Rock Me Amadeus", inspirada no filme que saiu no ano anterior e que em nível de qualidade não deixa nada a desejar pro filme.

O álbum segue com uma música que tem um dos meus clichês favoritos de músicas antigas: solos de gaita. "America" é uma música que me deixa alegre sem motivo. Logo após tem "Tango the Night". Eu não costumo gostar de músicas com o tema de Tango, mas essa é interessante.

Também tem "aquela que não se deve nomear". Se você se esquecer completamente do tema, é uma boa música, simplesmente porque todas no álbum são. Mas, pelo menos, por sorte, não é uma das melhores, então não preciso me culpar por colocar ela nessa parte da resenha. Não me lembro com que frequência o clipe passava, mas infelizmente tinha rotatividade o suficiente pra eu me lembrar dele.

"Vienna Calling" é uma das mais interessantes do álbum porque ao mesmo tempo em que o arranjo tenta ser diferente e meio sofisticado, a parte cantada é bem chiclete e várias vezes eu me pego ou com ela na cabeça ou cantarolando o refrão. O fato de que a música abre com uma introdução de "Danúbio Azul" é simplesmente óbvio e genial. Esse era um clipe que passava bastante e que revendo hoje em dia se tornou um dos meus favoritos.

"Männer des Westens (Any Kind of Land)" é uma das minhas favoritas de todos os tempos e uma que resume muito bem parte do estilo musical dos anos 1980. "Nothing Sweeter Than Arabia" é outra das minhas favoritas de todos os tempos e que merecia mais reconhecimento.

"Macho Macho" é, junto de "Männer des Westens", provavelmente as mais "normais" do álbum, mas essa também é efetiva da sua maneira. É um arranjo mais puxado pra Italo Disco e também é um bom exemplo da década, não sei como por tanto tempo não prestei mais atenção nela. Ela ajuda a enfatizar o caos que é o álbum, pois uma das faixas mais agitadas dele é seguida pela boa porém típica balada de encerramento, uma cover de "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue".

Review: SUPER JUNIOR - TIMELESS

Até o momento em que escrevo isso, o grupo teve duas tentativas de se atualizar, essa sendo a primeira e a melhor.

Mas, a coisa é meio complicada. Esse é um bom álbum? Sim. Um bom álbum pra quarta geração? Definitivamente. Um dos melhores álbuns da discografia do SUPER JUNIOR? Definitivamente... Não.

Ele fica demais com um pé de cada lado. Aqui nós temos um álbum infinitamente mais atual do que o último, mas que ainda carrega o estilo do grupo. Com isso, eu precisei ouvir ele mais de uma vez até começar a gostar do conjunto da obra e não só de músicas isoladas.

Por causa dessa tentativa de atualização, algumas músicas são muito melhores do que outras. Por exemplo, pode ser, como sempre, só coisa da minha cabeça, mas eu ainda sonho com "Shadow" sendo usada como A-side porque eu consigo visualizar até um clipe pra ela. Mas ao invés disso tivemos uma música genérica da quarta geração, "2YA2YAO!", como A-side no repackage. Olha, não é a pior música do mundo, mesmo, mas segue demais a fórmula das músicas atuais, assim como "Rock Your Body". "Heads Up" me deixa numa situação complicada porque era pra essa ser mais uma genérica da quarta geração, mas foi tão bem feita que talvez seja uma das minhas favoritas do álbum.

Pelo menos a A-side do primeiro lançamento, "SUPER Clap", é uma das melhores A-sides do grupo e uma das minhas favoritas no geral justamente por ter muito da personalidade do grupo em tudo, não só no nome. "Skydive" é outra que eu amo e queria muito que tivesse um clipe, por mais simples que fosse... Não, na verdade, um clipe simples seria perfeito. "Game" é uma música que fica meio perdida porque ela é 100% como as músicas de lançamentos anteriores, o que nesse caso é um elogio. Acho que essas são umas das senão as mais no estilo original do grupo.

Sendo um álbum do SUPER JUNIOR baladas são obrigatórias, e "Somebody New" é uma das melhores e mais tristes do grupo. Falando em baladas, "Stay with Me" é a faixa Vaporwave obrigatória pra esse tipo de álbum, e é uma boa faixa. "I Think I" e "No Drama" são as obrigatórias faixas latinas.

"The Crown" é uma música de live mas não só por causa dos efeitos sonoros, mas porque ouvir ela em um live faz 100% de diferença. Continuando no tema live, "Show" não é uma das minhas favoritas, mas ironicamente é uma das que mais tem o estilo do grupo, e encerra bem o álbum.

É muito difícil dar uma opinião final pra esse álbum. Eu não consigo enxergar fãs do grupo tendo este como um favorito já que a mudança de som é radical, e muita gente abomina o som da quarta geração. Apesar disso, eu aconselho ouvir as melhores faixas, e acho que fãs da quarta geração podem detestar os outros álbuns do grupo, mas vão acabar gostando deste.

Review: SNSD - FOREVER 1

 Após longos, intermináveis, agonizantes cinco anos, finalmente um dos grupos mais importantes de todos os tempos retornou para comemorar seu incrível 15º aniversário.

Devido a várias circunstâncias, era previsível como as músicas seriam, mas ainda assim havia, pelo menos da minha parte, o receio de que não fosse um bom álbum. Por que digo tudo isso? Porque é óbvio que elas não iriam mudar completamente o estilo que as consagrou - ainda mais em um aniversário -, mas com a mania que as pessoas tem de obrigar artistas a "se renovarem pra poderem continuar relevantes" isso podia colocar tudo a perder.

Felizmente não foi esse o caso.

SNSD é um grupo que tem a tradição de ter álbuns relativamente experimentais ou no mínimo dividido entre dois alteregos - o bonitinho e o forte/sexy. Esse é um dos experimentais.

"FOREVER 1" não é uma faixa ruim, mas... É previsível. Eu não sei... A-sides no geral, pra qualquer artista, são quase sempre previsíveis, por isso nunca tenho expectativas ridiculamente altas pra elas. Pelo menos foi uma boa atualização do estilo delas.

"Villain" é muito quarta geração meio que no bom sentido, mas "You Better Run" é muito quarta geração no sentido pejorativo. "Seventeen" e "Freedom" seguem o mesmo estilo no sentido de serem mais sérias, mas são música dos anos 2000 que funcionam perfeitamente, "Seventeen" sendo fácil de achar que foi lançada em 2007 e "Freedom" sendo uma mistura boa do estilo de 2010 com o de 2020.

"Lucky Like That" e "Summer Night" são summer songs e a segunda levou o nome tão ao pé da letra que eu realmente me sinto dentro de um vídeo de Vaporwave. "Closer" e "Mood Lamp" são outras que me fazem visualizar um vídeo de Vaporwave, e "Closer" é uma excelente balada.

Eu podia ter colocado "Paper Plane" na parte de Vaporwave/summer songs, mas queria falar dela separadamente. Eu fiquei muito feliz com a escolha dela pra encerrar o álbum, pois é uma música delicada e de certa forma uma balada, mas não do tipo de fazer chorar (a não ser que você seja um SONE) ou do tipo que faz dormir como ocorre em muitos outros álbuns por ai. Inúmeros álbuns encerram com baladas sem nem se perguntar o motivo disso, mas nesse álbum isso fez total sentido.

Sinceramente, no começo fiquei extremamente dividida com o que senti com a atualização do estilo delas, mas depois de ouvir algumas vezes, considero este um bom álbum que não deixou nada a desejar como uma comemoração de uma data histórica do K-pop.
